SYRACUSE — Wawasee, West Noble and Fairfield high schools recognized their 2016 building trades students at a banquet held Tuesday, May 3, in Wawasee High School’s cafeteria.
In all, 31 students have worked throughout the year to build a new home for Troy and Linda Hostetler at 67408 Kensington Drive in Goshen. Troy Hostetler was on hand with his daughter, Samantha, to thank the students and their instructors, Ed Waltz, Wawasee and Jeff McClure, who taught both Fairfield and West Noble students under the Fairfield building trades aegis.
Building trades is offered to juniors and seniors, and many students choose to participate for both years. Outstanding seniors for the programs were Jeffrey Moore, Wawasee and Pedro Guerrero, West Noble.

Curt Hursey, Wawasee High School building trades advisory board president gave opening and closing remarks in which he recognized members of both advisory boards as well as school board members in attendance.
Waltz and McClure then recognized their respective students: eight from Fairfield, seven from West Noble and 16 from Wawasee. Of those, seven students participated in the program for two years: From Fairfield, Jordan Keaffaber; West Noble, Pedro Guerrero, Cristian Huerta and Luis Zamarripa; Wawasee, Austin Burkholder, Jeffrey Moore and Daniel Pedroza.
First year students from Fairfield included BreeAnn Cox, Zachary Emmons, Kaleb Homister, Nicholas Lawson, Joshua Springer, Dylan Taylor and Wyatt Vicary; West Noble, Hector Luevano, Aaron Miller, Branden Reyes, Jared Swank; Wawasee, Caleb Bolt, Allen Bontrager, Nicolas Carr, Jordan Graham, Samuel Griner, Christian Hensley, Logan Long, Hunter Magiera, Carlos Maolagon, Jordan Roe, Michael Sautter, Brayden Spore and Joshua Webber.
The meal was catered by Dan Bauer with assistance from some of his WHS culinary arts students. Door prizes were given to selected building trades students and included gas cards, a tool box, tool bag, level set and more. All of the students received a set of Carhart work clothes.
The open house for the project takes place from 3 to 7 p.m., May 27 at the new Hostetler home, 67408 Kensington Drive, Goshen.
